In May 2017 a lawsuit was filed against the UC Regents for racial discrimination, harassment and retaliation for complaining about the harassment and discrimination, and wrongful termination. Our team had the honor or representing an African American phlebotomist. This case has taken over 2 years with a Plaintiff’s team consisting of 3 Law Firms: V. James DeSimone Law, Bohm Law Group, and Uplift Law, spearheaded by its 4 attorneys: Jim DeSimone, Carmen Sabater, Ryann Hall, and Melissa Fulgencio. Behind these advocates were several paralegals, law clerks, and legal assistants. 1000s of hours were put in, which included late nights, weekends, skipped vacations, and interrupted holidays. Both sides actively litigated the case with numerous court appearances. But, finally, after 6 days, a jury of 12 rendered their just verdict and found for the Plaintiff and awarded her damages of approximately $1.5 million.
Defendant UC Regents was found liable for subjecting Plaintiff to a hostile work environment and for wrongfully terminating her employment. We are so happy to see that our client has gotten the justice and compensation that she deserves! No one deserves to fight alone.
